Our performance dog courses are here to help you and your dog succeed in a variety of dog sport venues. We offer Obedience, Rally, Intro to Conformation, and Intro to Scent Work. Our Obedience and Rally courses are designed to prepare your dog to compete and excel at all levels at trials.

Obedience Courses

S.T.A.R. Puppy

Our AKC STAR puppy program is for puppies 12 weeks to 9 months old. The STAR Puppy program has been designed by the AKC to teach owners of young puppies the importance of Socialization, Training, Activity, and Responsibility while raising their dog. It is intended to teach young puppies basic skills and manners to set them up for success for the rest of their life. Our STAR puppy course is the prerequisite for any of our other courses if your puppy is younger than 9 months old.

You and your dog will learn the following commands and skills in this course:

Sit with a food lure
Down with food lure
Come when called
Handling Skills
Potty training skills
Leash walking basics
Safe socialization

Beginner Obedience

Our Beginner Obedience course is for dogs over 9 months old, or puppies who have already completed the STAR Puppy. The Beginner Obedience course focuses on the basic skills you and your pup will need to succeed in both Competition Obedience and AKC Rally, and will prepare you for the Beginner Novice (BN) title. This course is a prerequisite to our Rally Courses. Each team will be given the option to take their Canine Good Citizen test at the end of the course.

Novice Obedience

During our Novice Obedience course, the skills from Beginner Obedience are polished and advanced, and new exercises will be added to prepare each team for their Companion Dog (CD) title through the American Kennel Club. This course also begins the journey of off-leash training. Each team will be given the option to take their Community Canine (CGCA) test at the end of the course.

Heeling on & off lead
Sit & down in a group setting

Graduate Novice Obedience

Our Graduate Novice course is designed to be a stepping stone between the Novice and Open AKC Obedience titles. This will be a fast-paced course that begins to touch on more advanced dog training skills and techniques. After mastering this course you & your pup will be prepared to earn your Graduate Novice (GN) title. Each team will be given the option to take their Urban Canine Good Citizen (CGCU) test at the end of the course.

Intro to off-leash
Drop on recall
Moving down
Intro to high and broad jumps

Open Obedience

Our Open Obedience course is a completely off-leash course. You & your pup will build on your knowledge from the previous courses and learn new exercises that prepare you to earn your Companion Dog Excellent (CDX) AKC Obedience title. Each team will be given the option to take their Urban Canine Good Citizen (CGCU) test at the end of the course.

Some of the commands and skills you & your pup will learn are:

Fully off-lead heeling
Position changes (sit, down, stand)
Retrieve on flat
Retrieve over high jump
Broad jump
Long sit
Long down

Advanced Obedience

Our Advanced Obedience course is a stepping-stone course that is designed to help break down some of the difficult concepts between Open Obedience and Utility Obedience. *There is no title associated with this course, but it is a required prerequisite to our Utility Obedience course.* Each team will be given the option to take their Urban Canine Good Citizen (CGCU) test at the end of the course.

Some of the commands and skills you & your pup will learn are:

Hand signals for all commands
Go out (send away and sit)
Intro to scent: handler discrimination
Moving stand stay and exam

Utility Obedience

Our Utility Obedience course is our highest level of obedience training. In this course, you & your pup will polish all of the skills previously learned, while also learning how to work together from across the ring. This class is challenging but also very rewarding for you & your dog. After you have mastered the following exercises and commands you will be prepared to earn your dog's Utility Dog (UD) title through the American Kennel Club. Each team will be given the option to take their Urban Canine Good Citizen (CGCU) test at the end of the course.

AKC Rally® Courses

*These courses have prerequisites. Your dog must have its Advanced Canine Good Citizen (Community Canine) or they must have completed Beginner Obedience.*

AKC Rally is a sport that any dog & handler team can enjoy. The team navigates a course that is made up of a multitude of signs that tell them what command to complete. Each team begins with 100 points, and points are deducted for any mistakes that are made. After qualifying three times the team is awarded a title. Rally has three levels, Novice, Advanced, and Excellent. Rally is open to all dogs who are registered with the AKC, including the Canine Partners & PAL programs. We will also offer the Canine Good Citizen Tests to participants of these courses.

Rally® Novice 1

In this course, you and your dog will learn the first half (1-21) of the signs for your Rally Novice title. During each lesson, we will work on a set amount of signs and then you and your pup will complete practice courses with the signs that you learned both that week and during prior lessons. Practicing and memorizing the signs that you have learned will be a part of each week's homework.

Rally® Novice 2

In this course, you and your dog will learn the second half (22-42) of the signs for your Rally Novice title. During each lesson, we will work on a set amount of signs and then you and your pup will complete practice courses with the signs that you learned both that week and during prior lessons. Practicing and memorizing the signs that you have learned will be a part of each week's homework. At the completion of this course you and your dog will be prepared to compete for your AKC Rally Novice (RN) title.

Rally® Intermediate

In this course, you and your dog will learn Rally signs 101-123, excluding any jumps, for your Rally Intermediate title. During each lesson, we will work on a set amount of signs and then you and your pup will complete practice courses with the signs that you learned both that week and during prior lessons. During this course, we will begin off-leash obedience for any of the signs that you have already mastered. All new signs will be taught on leash. Practicing and memorizing the signs that you have learned will be a part of each week's homework. At the completion of this course, you and your dog will be prepared to compete for your AKC Rally Intermediate (RI) title.

Rally® Advanced

In this course, you and your dog will solidify your knowledge of Rally signs 101-123, including any jumps. During each lesson, we will work on a set amount of signs and then you and your pup will complete practice courses with the signs that you learned both that week and during prior lessons. All training done in this course will be completely off-leash. Practicing and memorizing the signs that you have learned will be a part of each week's homework. At the completion of this course, you and your dog will be prepared to compete for your AKC Rally Advanced (RA) title.

Rally® Excellent

In this course, you and your dog will learn Rally signs 201‐216, 298, 299, including any jumps. During each lesson, we will work on a set amount of signs and then you and your pup will complete practice courses with the signs that you learned both that week and during prior lessons. All training done in this course will be completely off-leash. Practicing and memorizing the signs that you have learned will be a part of each week's homework. Due to the difficulty of this level the information will be split into two courses.

Rally® Excellent 2

In this course, you and your dog will learn Rally signs 201‐216, 298, 299, including any jumps. During each lesson, we will work on a set amount of signs and then you and your pup will complete practice courses with the signs that you learned both that week and during prior lessons. All training done in this course will be completely off-leash. Practicing and memorizing the signs that you have learned will be a part of each week's homework. At the completion of this course you and your dog will be prepared to trial for your AKC Rally Excellent (RE) title.

Intro Courses

We will periodically add courses to this section. These 3 week courses are designed to give you an opportunity to see if you and your pup are interested in different AKC sport venues.

Intro to Scent Work

In this intro course we will go over Scent Imprinting, teaching your dog to search, when to call alert, and more! Practice materials will be provided.

Introduction to Conformation

This course will introduce you to the world of AKC Conformation. You will learn terms and definitions, how dog shows work, class order at dog shows, and basic handling skills.
